Week 8 Reflection Questions

1. What are the similarities between Islam and Judaism?

  • Single god
  • Descendents of Abraham
  • Jerusalem is the Holy City
  • Stress good works over faith
  • Does not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ

2. What are the differences between Islam and Judaism?

  • Islam believe in the second coming of Jesus, Judaism doesn’t.
  • Islam allows four woman to marry one man, Judaism allows

3. In what ways does religion potentially enhance a person’s life?
For me as a Jehovah’s Witness, I think that religion enhances peoples lives in many ways. It can give us hope for the future, for our dead loved ones and its laws can benefit us in everyday life.

4. In what ways does religion potentially restrict/detract from a person’s life?

People in certain religions are often persecuted. This especially happened in the Nazi concentration camps to many Jews and many Jehovah Witnesses. It can be very hard for people and could possibly “restrict” someones life.
5. In a multicultural society, should all religions be allowed or are some religious practices too extreme to be accepted in Australia?

Hard question… I think that different religions should be tolerated and be treated with respect. I also think that the people from different religions should respect the law and the people in power.
6. Did you thinking/assumptions about either or both of these religions change follwing the trail? If so, in what ways?

I didn’t really have any assumptions about either of the religions, but it was a very interesting trail and I learnt a lot about what each religion believes.

Week 7 Reflection Questions

Reflect on the experiences of the Amazing Race and the Queenscliff camp. What were your personal highlights?

I had to highlights, my first was the Amazing Race. It was really fun to just go around the city like normal and look for things. We were late by 6 minutes, probably because Mai made us take the wrong tram (just because it was pink) and we didn’t get everywhere so I don’t think we have much chance of winning. My other highlight was pretty much all of camp. I really liked GaGa ball. It was a really fun game and everyone enjoyed playing it. I also liked the talent show as it was really fun to watch everyone to do their stuff and it was just a great night.

Did you learn anything new about students or teachers?

Um… Not really. I thought it was funny when the teachers did their act at the talent show though.

How do you think the experience of camp will affect how the Galileo community operates?

I think the whole Galileo group has become closer and everyone would be comfortable talking to each other. I will also give everybody some great memories

Week 6 Reflection Questions

Has your understanding of ‘Justice’ become broader during the week?

It has been a really insightful week. I thought it would be all about being fair, but I have learnt that there are many more ways of looking at it and so many different aspects to it. I found the Old Melbourne Gaol very interesting in how they thought thy could cure people from the sickness of crime by isolating them from the world. It also showed how people could make mistakes and flaw justice, as in the case of the innocent man who was hung without sufficient evidence. I think anyone deserves a fair go and a proper trial.

What are the major things you found yourself thinking about and has your understanding of Melbourne and/or the world changed as a result?

I think that the burning question was: “Is Melbourne fair?”. It was a very tough question. I don’t think that any place can be absolutely fair today, but I think that we are lucky to live in one of the fairest cities/countries in the world and that it is sad that other people in less fair countries have to live in those conditions.

Self Assesment

Achievement:

For achievement, I think I deserve an eighty.

Honest reflection on progress (or lack of) with regard to four of the student’s stated goals. All required homework tasks have been attempted, are consistently completed at a high standard and display some improvement. Contribution to Team Project demonstrated an ability to work independently and with initiative.

I have made an honest reflection of my goals, once a week and then four goal reflections this week. I have completed all homework tasks and have incorporated Michael’s suggestions into my writing and improved each week. I have worked independently, doing my allocated work, but have also listened, offered suggestions and used my strengths in the team. This is why I believe I should receive an eighty for achievement.

Attitude and Effort

For Attitude and Effort, I also believe I deserve an eighty.

A student at this level:

  • Incorporates teacher feedback into future work
  • Joins in class discussions/activities without being prompted
  • Responds respectfully to points of disagreement
  • Always brings necessary materials
  • Always on time to class

As mentioned before, I have incorporated Michael’s feedback into my writing throughout the term.  I join in with the discussion in the classroom a lot (maybe even too much) and I always try to think of how a disagreeing point might be valid. I am also always on time to class and bring the necessary materials. This is why I think I deserve an eighty for attitude and effort.

Weekly Reflection 5

Goals Reflection:

Australian Political System
I think that I have partly missed out on this, as we missed two days of Justice Week and we didn’t get to go on the trail. Hopefully though, we will discuss it later in the term.

Public Transport
I have put this goal into practice a lot when doing trails and especially when we have to find our own way to our locations. I also found out that some streets in the city grid don’t have trams. Shock Horror!!!

Teamwork
I think that I have showed teamwork when working in our team project groups, doing my allocated work, suggesting ideas and listening to others. I think that I have also done these things when working in other groups, like trail groups.

First Aid
It was great that we had the opportunity to learn the basics of First Aid and CPR in week 3. Hopefully I can put this into practice later in life.

Art’s Role in Society:

I think that art plays a big role in society today. Throughout the week, I have learnt that there are so many different types of art and sometimes some art is intended for a certain audience and sometimes people not in that audience despise of that art.

I think that even if we don’t necessarily like the art, we should respect it as someones expression of their creativity.

Weekly Reflection 4

For me, there wasn’t much to reflect on in week three. Monday and Tuesday, we didn’t have school and I was sick on Friday. That leaves one and a half days of Galileo.

Anyway, Wednesday started of with a choice of what wanted to do, numerical reasoning of Better organisation. I don’t know if this is saying something, but the numerical reasoning class was all boys.  We discussed statistics and how they can be used to trick us, it was very interesting and informative. In the next two sessions were for our team project. We worked on our team project and sorted out our mini-trail (which i would sadly miss). After lunch we had another choice session, I chose Multiple Intelligences and Internet research. They were both very interesting, the first talking about different ways in which we learn and the second we discussed how the Internet can only give us fact and opinion, but not answers to questions such as: Should Australia have a carbon tax?

For the last two sessions on Thursday, we did Resume Writing. We talked about the good and bad things too put in our Resumes. Then we wrote our own, it was hard to think of what skills we had, because we haven’t been in the workforce yet. I didn’t quite finish mine, but I plan to soon.

Sadly, I was sick on Friday, but thankfully my team did the presentation without me. THANK YOU TEAM.

Goal Revision:

Resume Writing:
It was great to learn how to write a resume and helpful to know the good and the bad.  After already starting mine and hoping to finish it,  I am sure this skill will help me in the future.

Skills Workshop Questions

How do you feel about the idea of getting a real, paid job in the future?
I think it will be great to earn some money and be able to feel like you’ve worked for what you are buying. I still have to wait seven months.

What would you want to be your first paid work? Why?
I am not sure, but something that I can do  after school or in the holidays and something not too hard to do.
